Leslie Johnson, a founding partner of Timken Johnson LLP, is a highly respected real estate transaction attorney with forty years of experience handling large and complex real estate transactions in California, out of state and internationally.
Leslie’s practice of structuring entities for real estate ownership, family succession and simply “getting the deal closed” is diverse, cutting-edge and high-end.

Leslie’s areas of expertise include:

  • Acquisitions
  • Dispositions
  • Leasing
  • Financing
  • Investment Structure
  • Taxation

Innovation and creativity are the hallmark of Leslie’s practice.  These qualities, along with her business judgment, are highly valued by her long-time and very loyal clients.  Leslie has also served as an expert witness on numerous matters, and she taught both real property law and tax aspects of real property transactions.  Leslie has an AV Peer Review Rating in Martindale-Hubbell.

Leslie is a 1970 graduate of Stanford University and received her J.D. from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1973.  At Boalt, she served as the Note and Comment Editor for the California Law Review.

Leslie is a native Californian, born in San Francisco and having lived most of her life in Orinda.  Leslie is an avid sportswoman and served as the assistant soccer coach at Mills College from 1996 to 2005 – following her own illustrious, yet now sadly long past, career as a player.  Fortunately, the new generation of women soccer players, together with the advent of the San Francisco Giants as a champion team provides her great comfort.  Meanwhile at the office, she still loves making real estate deals happen.

In the course of her career, Leslie has spent substantial time representing investors, lenders and developers through a broad spectrum of acquisition, construction and development transactions.  She has handled just about every possible type of transaction, including the financing of a broad spectrum of real estate projects.  Whether representing seller, buyer, lender or borrower, landlord or tenant, the depth and breadth of Leslie’s experience with real property transactions has given Leslie invaluable insight into the practical realities of real estate acquisition, financing, development, ownership and operation.

In addition to the acquisition and disposition of properties, Leslie exhibits a flare for structuring joint ventures and creative arrangements for acquisition, development and operation of projects.

Some representative transactions include:

  • Represented primary lender in structuring and documenting a large acquisition/ development loan for construction of a multi-phased attached housing project with allowance for secondary financing and which ultimately led to a complex re-structuring and the documentation preparation for an increase and expansion of the financing to meet demands for expedited construction to match faster than anticipated demands for finished units.
  • Represented lender in conventional and bond construction financing and long-term financing for university housing.
  • Represented the owner in the disposition of the year’s single largest sale in Alameda County.
  • Represented developer in structuring and drafting an intricately interwoven series of eighteen purchase and option to purchase agreements to provide for the successful assemblage of a large and difficult to assemble parcel.
  • Represented investor throughout a long-term transaction which commenced with the acquisition of a large parcel in Sonoma County and the subsequent disposition through an exchange for a parcel in San Diego County.  Negotiated and drafted the acquisition agreement and the construction contracts and negotiated the acquisition/construction financing pursuant to which client constructed a large apartment complex which, after operation as an apartment complex, was suitable for disposition as condominiums.
  • Represented investor in acquisition, development and construction of large storage facility and structured and documented unique long-term participatory financing for the project.

Experienced and knowledgeable, Leslie will add judgment, creativity and legal acumen to the handling of your real estate holdings.
